Dear Folks!
Though it's been 30 years since I first opened the doors of Dancing Willow Herbs, there have been many milestones and incarnations along the way. I went from my first little nook of an herb shop to my next little nook. I was invited to join the family at Maria’s bookshop, and many of you may not remember that it was in the location Eureka Dan's presently is. This was when Durango was still a sleepy little town, not such a 'destination.' I was delighted to move into the back of my little store nook, my lab was straight up a ladder and we got very strong hauling gallons of alcohol and jars of tincture up and down. It smelled of musty wood, fresh books, and aromatic herbs. We loved the community of the bookstore and our clientele grew as did we!
After a year or so, we moved to the new and current location of Maria’s and I was in the back of the book shop where they currently have their offices. We crafted our products and sold them and the smell of our products wooed many new customers back to our space. The signature Dancing Willow 'smell' lingered for years after we left and people often commented on it! Perhaps it’s the reason that I crafted the Willow Scent! Time marched on and I married and got pregnant with my daughter Grace. For me, this was a time of enormous growth and expansion…and I’m not really referring to my belly! Grace’s birth piqued my interest in the healing wonder of plants even more and I found myself studying, researching and wanting to get even more clear on herbs and their interactions with children and particular issues like ecema, respiratory issues and other common childhood maladies. I wanted only the best possible ingredients and treatments for my precious child and for ALL kids! This newfound passion burgeoned into a full children’s line of formulas and herbs for kids.
When Grace was 9 months old we moved into our current location. This was both exciting and daunting! New to motherhood and being accountable to a Main Street business felt like a lot! And it was! But it was also an exciting time in the world of holistic health with the advent of the internet and access to knowledge and access to ingredients that had previously been impossible to get. I was able to broaden my product lines and fortify them with new adaptogens and herbs, things like ashwagandha and holy basil began to show up in our recipes and the results were phenomenal. With access to these new products, it felt as though there was a revolutionary consciousness born of a new diversity!
This inspired me to create and push myself to have product lines that were better and more refined than ever, with beautiful labels to inspire and delicious flavors that healed and fortified! My teas became a passion and it was so very fun to taste and hear the feedback from our community as they sipped them ‘on the street’…a tradition that I’m eager to return to! To offer a potent and powerful and nourishing tea line that also sings to the soul has been an honor and it makes me so happy to drink my tea in the morning, or before bed, or on a blustery day and know that so many of you are joining me in this nourishing tradition.
